Need some help crunching your numbers? ADI Network is more than just a diary management app. You can use the app to monitor all of your work-related incomings and outgoings, and take payments from private learners.

Track what's coming in and going out

Once you’ve downloaded the ADI Network app and signed up, just tap the ‘Finance’ button at the bottom of the screen.

From there, you can tap the ‘Money in’ and ‘Money out’ buttons to add income or your costs to your app.

When you're working out your driving instructor salary, it's important to consider all of your business costs as well as the money coming in. If you're self-employed, you need to keep track of what you're spending on things like fuel, insurance and taxes.

Driving Instructor Salary

Driving instructors aren't usually employed, so they don't have a guaranteed source of income. But don't worry — driving instructors are in high demand, and the earning potential has never been higher.

But exactly how much does a driving instructor earn? In 2024, we surveyed driving instructors around the UK and found that approved driving instructors (ADIs) are charging just over £38 an hour on average, and potential driving instructors (PDIs) are charging £37 per hour.

Let's work on the assumption that you'll be delivering 40 hours of lessons per week. An hourly rate of £38 per hour would mean the average driving instructor salary is almost £77,000 a year.

Of course, running your own business comes with costs that will need to come from your salary, but you should still be left with a healthy amount of money coming in each month.

Set up digital payments

In today’s modern world, not many learner drivers will carry cash and will expect to be able to make online payments to their driving instructor.

On the ADI Network app, you can set up a digital payment account with our partners Stripe. You’ll then be able to send private learners a link to pay you. There’s a small fee for each payment, but this can be paid by the learner.
